About the event

The International Competition for Young Bakers dates back to 1971, when it was first held in Berlin, Germany. Starting with just a handful of competitors, today more and more countries are sending participants. This year, 12 to 14 countries are expected to take part in this prestigious competition, which is held annually in one of the UIBC member countries — the International Union of Bakers and Confectioners.

Each country sends two candidates, who are usually the winners and runners-up of their respective national championships. In some countries, these national competitions take place shortly before the UIBC Contest, while in others, qualification is based on the results of the previous year’s competition.
